ORACLE MALAYSIA AND MAGNIFIX SDN BHD MOVE FORWARD WITH NEXT GENERATION PLATFORM IN LOCAL EDUCATION ARENA

Oracle Malaysia and Magnifix in pact to deliver technology expertise for education market with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.

Kuala Lumpur, 23rd November 1999- At a signing ceremony today, Oracle Systems Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Oracle Malaysia) appointed Magnifix Sdn Bhd (Magnifix) as its program member level partner to optimize the needs for the local Linux market. Also, at the same ceremony, Magnifix signed a deal to assist Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), incorporate Oracle technology on Linux for the university's "Centre of Excellence".

Meor Safi and Johnson Khoo of Oracle The Centre of Excellence initiative will support efforts for coexistence through the use of computer technology and the Internet, to help increase understanding and foster knowledge among all UPSI students by bridging the "digital divide". This significant initiative will also help accelerate the adoption of Linux within the e-business, enterprise and individual user communities.

Commenting on the appointment of Magnifix, the Sales Director for Oracle Malaysia, Johnson Khoo, "The appointment of Magnifix was in fact in line with Oracle's Partner Program charter, and in tandem with the market forces that foresees an increasing amount of interest in the Linux operating system."

" Coupled with the vast experience of Magnifix team in Linux technology and our own expertise, we are confident that are able to meet growing needs of local customers, prospects and other partners.

Targeting small to medium-size enterprises and Internet commerce-focused companies, Oracle together with Magnifix plan to actively promote the availability of Oracle8i and this e-business optimized version of Red Hat Linux by deploying the combined solutions internally and jointly marketing the availability of the products to enterprises users locally.

UPSI would start the Centre of Excellence with the robust Oracle8i database with Oracle assisting in technology transfer for the database portion. Magnifix will actively provide consultancy, technical and educational support to UPSI for the related products and solutions.

"This ability to work powerful technology such as Oracle database will help our students blend theory and practice, helping us to prepare our students even more comprehensively for the future world of work. With technology, we also need to upgrade the curriculum, which would reflect the current thinking in education, allowing a higher degree of flexibility than previously allowed," he stated.

Adding these new breed of technology to the existing UPSI range of hardwares will enable the institution to increase IT course offerings to its students. This is in line with the Malaysian government's campaign of "Education for the 21st Century" and will help make IT education more equitable and democratic. Oracle Malaysia, Magnifix and UPSI believe that with the ability and creativity incorporated with the local talents, Malaysia will be able to produce a new breed of capable individuals who will eventually contribute to the information and multimedia industry.
